We have a hunch we will be seeing much more of the work by the young, London-based graphic designer and illustrator, Nikki Farquharson.

Her ongoing project, Mixed Media Girls, gives the viewer a lot to look at. The collages appear innocent and sweet but at the same time exude sharp, pent-up energy that does not feel altogether safe. The title of the work is also wonderfully suggestive – or not, depending on how the reader wishes to understand it.

Farquharson’s work extends from the one-dimensional world to book projects and 3D pieces in which she often ponders and twists the meaning of words and proverbs, spies on conversations, and questions established truths.

In 2007, she started the website Random Got Beautiful that is open for anyone to submit images focused on a specific color. - Tuija Seipell

Memphis, the Broadway musical

Last night I saw Memphis the Broadway musical about black music int he 50’s, and Huey Calhoun, a young man who’s love and goal in life is to bring black music to the airwaves for white people to hear and appreciate. He is a misfit who can’t keep a job and when he gets a chance to spin some records at a local department store in order to entice customers to buy them, he plays “colored” music. He ends up selling quite a few records and keeping his job, which was in jeopardy. He visits the black neighborhoods and goes to one certain music club where he is barely accepted but he makes him self become accepted by showing his musical prowess and fitting in eventually. That’s as much as I will give away without you going to see it yourself

This was the best time I have had in a verrrrrrrrrrryyyyy long time!! My good friend Matt and I went to see this show and it was riviting! It recieved standing ovations twice throughout the performance! I almost cried twice and thats hard to do…seriously.

I HIGHLY recommend this musical, its good to know that a performance can still surprise you and keep you entertained the whole time!

4 out of 4 stars…and I’m not easily impressed….go see it

Hung Like A Billboard

HBO’s show HUNG has now made its New Zealand debut on TVNZ’s Channel One.

Auckland-based ad agency Colenso BBDO was retained to promote the show and to generate some buzz. They have definitely created a buzz with their risqué billboard, recently erected on Victoria Street in central Auckland. Whether you like the billboard or not, and whether it draws you to watch the show or not, you must admit that the old, tried-and-true subjects – well-endowed female and male bodies – never seem to fail to draw attention.

I’m a sponsor! – yes, it’s official…i am not this young little boys sponsor. His name is Breiner Johan Castillo Gutierrez and he is such a cutie! I like him He is from Columbia and has 4 siblings. The story is I was walking down the street after the gym in Manhattan and a lady stopped me on the street and convinced me to sign up and sponsor a child. I agreed and signed off on the paper work and two weeks later i got a packet in the mail with all of Breiner’s info

Hey everyone…random updates

I’m back after a few days away and I just wanted to say hello and that I’m doing fine Just been super busy with some projects and family time. Its safe to say that my finger will be ok…it is healing up rather well (primary healing because we managed to push the cut together and treat it right away). I haven’t been sleeping well lately and my whole biological clock is a bit off, but i just look at it as e going through some internal changes and a necessary transformational thing…if that makes sense? So..Glad to be back and glad to be updating!

I am a podcast man…. sometimes I listen to podcasts while driving long distance, sometimes while just sitting around, but i listen to a lot of them. Mainly I listen to psychology podcasts but my favorite is Radio Lab which is broadcast by WNYC and you can subscribeto it on itunes for free. I love free education and podcasts are a great way to train your brain passively….its audio education at your own pace and in the comfort of your own whatever. So, fyi…Simon Dexter is a podcast nerd.

Today my friends and I went out to see the Crazzies…. and wow…. what a great movie! If your into thrillers and action this one is the ticket for you. Its a wild ride all the way through. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and gripping the arm rest many a times throughout. It has blood, guts, horror, terror, surprise, action, suspense, and a classically remade storey line, all the elements that make up a great scary movie… so go see it.

Samurai swords – not for kids

Sometimes I play around too much. This is what happens when you talk on the phone and tip a fully sharpened hand forged full tang battle ready samurai sword upside down while holding the scabbard by the end the sword enters. You can visualize it I’m sure….

And my phone is on the fritz… must be my bad luck week.. i think we all get them one in a while don’t you? In fact, a very special person in my life had some funny yet almost really bad things happen to her the other day… running out of gas twice, getting stuck on a mountain, almost getting fired from a 100,000 job she just landed on her first day! lol…i gotta laugh at that one. But seriously, sometimes bad things happen to us to slow us down or to wake us up… perhaps? And to remind us of everything good we have going on in our lives that we may be taking for granted.

Anyone have some stories to share about bad weeks, days, hours or whatever? Comment me.

I’ve gotten some complaints

That my blog posts have become a bit lazy…. and the truth is that my time has been thinned out lately due to an overwhelming amount of new responsibilities. If you have been flowing my blog diligently you know how many different projects I have in the works and understand that posting something new and creative everyday is quite difficult.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not excusing myself by any means, I’m saying that sometimes different priorities enter into our lives and we deal with them accordingly. If you feel my blog hasn’t kept up for you you are more then welcome to go else where… no one forces you here. However… to those fans who stick around and know me well…I am always cooking something fun, cool, sexy, smart and inspiring up in my kitchen so stay tuned…you will never be disappointed.
